AF31-F APPLICATION
Hydrocarbon Fires
AF31-F is used with an induction rate of 1% for hydrocarbon fires where a rapid and permanent knockdown is required such as at oil refineries and airports. This technology has also been used on large challenging tire fires.
Polar Solvent Fires
AF31-F is used with an induction rate of 1% for polar solvent fires where it’s unique filming action gives rapid knockdown and highly visible security.
Compatibility
AF31-F can be applied to any fire situation where other types of foam are being used and is compatible with dry fire extinguishing powders.
M-FIRE TECHNOLOGIES AF31-F CONCENTRATE
AF31-F is generally used to extinguish liquid fuel fires, which are difficult, in some cases impossible, to extinguish with water even in the form of spray or fog. Some hazardous substances have a specific gravity lower than water and are not miscible with water. Their flash point is often much higher than the temperature of the water applied. Flammable liquid fuel give off vapour and, within the flammable limits of the substance, it is this vapour that burns. AF31-F was developed to float on the surface of the liquid creating a barrier between the vapour and the air thus extinguishing the fire. AF31-F is multi purpose foam concentrate designed for use on any fuel fire situation.
DESCRIPTION
AF31-F Foam Concentrate forms an aqueous film that rapidly cuts off the oxygen supply and thus knock down the fire. The expanded foam from which the film is drained forms a stable blanket that suppresses and cools down the fuel surface extinguishing the fire and preventing re-ignition. The low surface tension of the water foam concentrate solution enable AF31-F foam, although heavier than the burning liquid, to float on top of the liquid surface.
AF31-F Foam Concentrate should be used at 1% proportioned solution (1 part concentrate in 99 parts of water) in fresh or sea water. It may also be stored as a pre mix solution in fresh water.
EXTINGUISHING MECHANISM
Hydrocarbon fuel fires are extinguished by blanketing the burning fuel vapour with foam which blocks the supply of oxygen. The foam blanket also resists reignition. AF31-F is based on carefully selected blends of potassium based surfactants, produce a vapour suppressing transparent aqueous film over the surface of the burning fuel giving rapid coverage and extinction. This also prevents reignition. The added high molecular weight potassium ingredient in AF31-F precipitates out and forms a thin fuel insoluable skin or membrane at the interface between the fuel and the foam and blocks the supply of oxygen.

A New Generation of Foam
AF31-F is certified by UL Greenguard gold. The Greenguard Gold Certification standard includes health-based criteria for additional chemicals and requires lower total VOC emmisions.
AF31-F is safe for groundwater. Aquatic testing was performed by Pollutech EnviroQuatics Limited. AF31-F is non-toxic for fish and other aquatic organisms
AF31-F has no ODS or VOCs. AF31-F has been tested by PSB Singapore to be free of any ODS (Ozone Depleting Substances) and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).
